INFORMATION
Starting with many small changes taking place over a period of years, DEMA has built local leadership and commitment to care for and manage the area on a permanent basis. Over time, an active and vital “downtown” has been revealed, attracting more and more investment into the area.
The National MainStreet "4-Point"approach™ to revitalization is a comprehensive management strategy which builds on the idea that the total image of an area must be addressed for revitalization efforts to be successful. The approach is a self-help methodology which develops the retail and professional area's necessary market niche; creates a high-quality visual identity unique to that community; and nurtures a cultural ambiance associated with a community's location, appearance and way of life.
Four major elements contribute to a downtown's
total image; Promotion, Design, Organization and Economic Restructuring.
DEMA employs all strategies to ensure that the businesses in
the area, especially those who are members of the association,
are well-represented. Events planned for the area induce economic
gain for the members and are designed to be fun, festive and
draw attendees from communities in and around the coastal Encinitas
region. They are cultural in nature and applaud the historical
components of the community such as the preservation of buildings
and open space, and they reveal the unique attributes of the
downtown community as a whole. |
