ENCINITAS - This summer, the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association (DEMA) will host the ninth consecutive "Rods and Woodies Classic Car Show" on Highway 101, between "D" Street and the Lumberyard. For the past eight years, the event has been a tremendous success, but this year will truly be outstanding! Each "Rods and Woodies" evening will feature classic cars on display for public viewing, and will provide an opportunity to admire the paint jobs that glisten and the shining engines that rip and roar. The cars will take you back to an era before SUVs, mini-vans, and hybrids existed to the glory days of the passenger car. Downtown Encinitas is an excellent and unique setting for a classic car show because the cars park along historic Highway 101 in a historic downtown. The history of Downtown Encinitas is directly connected to the history of Highway 101, and today both stand out as unique examples in the initial development of Southern California. A display of the various cars that have traveled its path for many years is one way to give "an ode to the road," to honor its history and draw attention to the road's vital role in shaping Downtown Encinitas and other costal communities throughout Southern California. You and your classic car are invited to attend our Rods and Woodies Classic Car Show on Highway 101 between 5:30pm and 7:30pm on each of the four summer nights. In addition to the diverse group of classic cars, every Rods and Woodies evening will be hosted by a different car club, and every classic car in attendance will be eligible for awards in various "best of" categories. There will also be a different band on each night to perform live music. Come early for the best parking spots because parking is limited, and dine at one of the many fantastic restaurants in Downtown Encinitas before the event "shifts into 5th gear."
