Mark your calendar for Thursday, June 21st, for a celebration of summer in Downtown Encinitas. On the 21st day of June, in every year, is the summer solstice the first official day of summer and the longest day of the year for all of us north of the equator. This year, the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association (DEMA) will be celebrating the height of summer by kicking off the 9th Annual Rods and Woodies Classic Car Show in Downtown Encinitas the first of four in the summer series. In June, the Heartbeat Classic Chevy Club, whose 80 plus members own Chevys from 1955, 1956, and 1957, will host the event. Among them are top winners in competitions big and small including the national top-prize Chevy Nomad. DEMA is proud to say that Rods and Woodies will be part of the national, and Heartbeat's own, yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of the '57 Chevy. Doug Jones, a member of the club, says about '57 Chevys that they are "the last and most popular of the tri-five body styles. In '58 the boats started." Rods and Woodies is a great reason to get out and take advantage of the extra hours of daylight, that will without a doubt lend themselves well to the admiration of the immaculate paint jobs and glistening engines in the classic cars that will be out along Highway 101 for public display. If historic Downtown Encinitas is not reason enough to enjoy a night out on the town, Rods and Woodies will up the ante. It is an excellent reason to enjoy a summer night out in a historic downtown with 40 great restaurants and over 200 unique shops. The event will begin at 5:30pm with a "fire up" by the Heartbeat Classic Chevy Club at Encinitas Smog Test Only Center (682 S. Coast Hwy 101) that will unleash the power of the cars all at once. There will be live music by The Best Band Ever and "best of" awards distributed by the evening sponsor, Road One Towing. Every car in attendance is eligible and there is no cost for displaying or viewing the cars. The event will last until 7:30pm. Come early for the best parking spots because parking is limited, and dine at one of the many fantastic restaurants in Downtown Encinitas before the event "shifts into 5th gear." Contact:
