ENCINITAS: 10th annual Arts Alive Banner Unveiling is set for January 27th at 2 PM. The unveiling will take place at the Old Coast Dispatch Building on the Coast Highway and F Street in Historic Encinitas. The old building, now the home of the Off Track Gallery, is scheduled to be leveled this winter to make room for a retail and residential development. This will be the last time the building is used before it is dismantled and moved to Mexico. This year the Arts Alive Banner Project, which started in Encinitas, will display over 100 banners. All are originals painted on the vinyl canvases that will grace the street lights along the Coast Highway from La Costa Avenue to Cardiff's Restaurant Row . . . six miles of art! The 101 artists participating are now painting their creations and plans are underway to make this the most breathtaking unveiling yet. The organizations taking part are the 101 Artists Colony, Cardiff 101 Chamber of Commerce, and the Leucadia 101 Mainstreet. The Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association (DEMA) spearheads the undertaking. The banners hung in Cardiff are sponsored by the Cardiff Seaside Market, in Encinitas they are sponsored by Charlie's Foreign Car Service and in Leucadia they are sponsored by Surfers' Point. The banners will go on the three month auction block starting at the unveiling and going till the final live auction in May 18th. Bids start at $150.
